Web Application Development

Build a database-driven web application with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP and MySQL.

Beginner 6 weeks 12 live sessions Live online Enrolling now

Overview

This is the course for anyone who has built a static page and wants to build software. Over six weeks you build one real application end to end: a front end, a PHP back end, a MySQL database, user accounts, and a deployment.

It suits final-year students who need a working project, and anyone who wants to move from pages to applications. Every session is live, and you write the application as we go rather than watching someone else write it.

What you will be able to do

  • Model a problem as database tables with sensible relationships
  • Write PHP that reads and writes to MySQL safely, using prepared statements
  • Build user registration, login and sessions from scratch
  • Create, read, update and delete records through a web interface
  • Validate input on both the client and the server
  • Upload and serve files securely
  • Handle errors without exposing internals to the user
  • Deploy a working application and defend how it is built
